🎃Happy Halloween!🎃
Shepard chose the costumes. Garrus doesn't know what he's dressed us, he's just happy he gets to carry a sniper rifle.

I finally got to complete my collection of these Soul Gems, which I posted about previously! I got them off AliExpress but they're hardly cheap at $40 apiece, lol (I did buy them at different times which helped). They're easily the highest-quality Soul Gem replicas I own, and I own a LOT of them.

thinking about how ballister's sword was given to him by ambrosius to aid him in becoming a knight and possibly as a token of friendship or love... and the director yoinked that shit and replaced it with a tool of destruction that almost cost ballister his life and resulted in ambrosius cutting off the arm he was going to wield that gift with
also let's not forget the director would've also killed ambrosius with ballister's actual sword if nimona hadn't gotten there first. she literally would've used something he gave ballister out of love to murder him.
man like. there's a 'g' turned to a 'b' carved on that sword. that's their names put together. that's their history together. that's nearly their whole lives spent together. loving each other. taken away and used as a weapon against both of them. this movie's great. i love this movie

I'm excited (And slightly terrified) to post the project that's been occupying most of my spare time for the last few months, filming a very in-depth tutorial on how to make one of my Firey Plush toys for Youtube! I have been wanting to make this video a reality for a few years now, so it's sorta surreal to finally see it finally complete. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about the quality of this video, I'm very much an amateur at sewing after all. But if an amateur like me can make this cool plush, then surely the majority of folks out there can make it too!
Hopefully this'll be the first of a good few prop replica tutorials I film for Youtube, but I'm gonna reward myself with a bit of a break before I even think about recording something again.

I need an original series phaser for my Halloween costume. I did not already own an original series phaser. The solution:
Tumblr media
Make one out of Cardboard and Popsicle sticks! It's not perfect, but it will suit my purposes nicely.
Build pics/details under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, the handle's main structure is popsicle sticks. There's a bunch of those hot glued willy-nilly inside the prop to make it sturdier. I used both glazing spot putty and wood filler to smooth out the surface, but frankly I recommend skipping the spot putty. Super nasty to work with, and actually really delicate, so not really worth it. Wood filler is cheaper and less likely to give you lung cancer. Wear a dust mask or respirator when working with either, regardless. The rounded edges of Phaser I are actually foam clay, which I figured would be easier to use than to shape and fold cardboard into a compound curve. The radiator fins in the back of the prop are made of acrylic from a cheap picture frame.
This took me about a week to do, but that's partially because I lose focus easily.

You want The Substance. I made these little vials. I mixed polyurethane resin with UV activated colorant. This only glows under black light.
You can get one via my Etsy.

I have been asked where to get Disguise's "Halloween Costume" Transformers One Matrix of Leadership. Well, Entertainment Earth will carry it, it's $14.99, and you can order it right now. I work there, and I am telling you about it.
Tell a friend if they like this kind of thing, please and thank you.

Look. The design for the scythe is so cool, SO cool. She is gorgeous and dope as hell. But you want me to believe this bitch is ancient??
Tumblr media
Thousands of years old????
Tumblr media
This looks like a weapon an alien warrior race uses in a cheesy sci fi movie. And I say that with affection. Exasperated affection, but affection.
Also. I just. That's not what a scythe looks like.
Tumblr media
That is not an agricultural tool, nor does it resemble a symbol of reaping souls. And nor is it a sickle for that matter (and a scythe and a sickle are NOT the same thing; though they are both centuries old agricultural tools, the sickle is one-handed, C shaped, and has come to be a symbol of the agricultural class in post WWI Russia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A scythe is a two-handed agricultural tool with a curved blade that is a symbol of death, not as a weapon to bring about death, but carried by Death to collect souls after death occurs, to reap them, as people used to use it to reap crops (tho in mythology and history they have been used as weapons, bc pointy metal hurty and also symbolism)).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But anyway yeah that's not what a scythe looks like!! It's an axe with a stake taped to the other end!!!!! In conclusion it fucks but the way they try to describe it makes me angy. I love her. Her lore is just problematic but it's not her fault, she did nothing wrong <3 but it does annoy me when I think about it. In conclusion (let the weird black goo rock symbolize the bad lore):

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in buying one of these first blade replicas or a keychain version if I were to make more and sell them. They are 3d printed and hand assembled, sanded and painted by me. Honestly I'm broke as hell rn and don't really have the time/ability to reliably get a decent job right now due to other commitments but I do have time to mess around with art in the quiet hours of the night 😛
I think at most I'd probably charge 45 for the life sized plus shipping and maybe 10-15 plus shipping for the keychains just because of filament, paint, sandpaper costs ect. Plus it takes about 16 hours to print one, and that's if it works out completely the first try.
If anyone thinks that would be something they are interested in, just let me know, as well as if you have any questions or comments on the pricing or anything else. I'm aware they aren't perfect but I thought I might as well try lol

And it’s done. The Einhorn Magnum from Signalis (based on the Chiappa Rhino)
3D Print file by Dominiclarner on Cults3d
It’s very hard to make out many details in the game, due to it’s very stylized PlayStation style graphics, so there was a lot of creative liberty taken here. I adjusted some of the print’s details to fit more in line with the original Chiappa Rhino, like the cylinder release and safety switch.
Overall, I decided to make it look more grimy and dirty than I otherwise would have, because Signalis as a whole has a very decayed and eroded theme going on, so I tried to represent that in a IRL object.
The result is a(n admittedly a bit weird) combination of cartoony and weathered.

Nothing is better than trying to look for reference material for a project and finding something with every dimension you could dream of.
I’m working on a project where I digitally model and 3D print a bunch of the ammo from the game Hunt: Showdown. The game is set in the late 1800s/early 1900s, so the rounds used by a bunch of the guns are virtually extinct. As a result, I want to do my little part to help preserve these small bits of history and recreate these obscure cartridges.
Anyways, I was looking for reference material for my model of the .41 Swiss round, used by the Vetterli carbine, and I think I managed to find THE FUCKING PATENT because it has exact measurements in millimeters (what I use in CAD), as well as tolerances (max/min dimensions of sections allowed in production under the patent), and a pattern for the paper patch that would be wrapped around the bullet before being pressed into the cartridge.
Tumblr media
What a fucking find.

I keep forgetting that I haven't finished putting pictures of all my prop replica projects onto Tumblr, so I figured I'd share one of my favourite projects to date: Recreating the 13 hour Lantern Clock that appears at the end of Jim Henson's Labyrinth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a build that I was really proud to accomplish because it felt a bit like solving a puzzle, both figuratively and literally. I spent a lot of time trying to find existing items that I could cobble together to get the shapes I wanted. For instance the columns of the clock were made out of a wooden thimble, mini baseball bat, candle stick, a cake decorating column, and some o-rings.
Tumblr media
Admittedly I was pretty close to chucking this project in the trash at a few points, mostly because I became convinced that it'd never look good. There's always a point with projects where they just look a little ugly, and it's sometimes very hard to tell if they're ugly because they're unfinished, or ugly because they are in fact ugly. Thankfully this project was in the former category, and it all came together eventually.
Other materials used in this project include foam core, some stick on decorative tiles from the dollar store, half of a fillable Christmas ornament, some EVA foam, and some wooden finials. I ended up getting some custom laser cut fretwork done for the top of the clock, and the details on the clock face were cut from vinyl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I completed this project right around the time I started beefing up my photography skills, so I did a little photoshoot with this clock using some thrift store curtains and brick work made out of insulation foam. The 'floating' effect in the photo was achieved just by taking the photo at a slight tilt. Simple, but very effective!
